This is a picture I took of the Eye of London using my Panasonic Lumix LX3 semi-pro camera.
Picture is pretty poorly lighted. Highlight & shadow balance off. But with Picasa, I can easily adjust the lighting and composition to make my picture twice as nice and compelling as it already is now. It's extremely user-friendly, and completely free for download here. In this case, the temperature of the picture was just nice but in any event it isn't, it can be adjustable in Picasa too. :) After Picasa tuning:
The picture instantly becomes fresher and clearer.
Tip: It allows u to cheat a little, in the sense that you use a really fast shuttle speed to get better pictures, and use Picasa to tune it a little, giving u sharp & well-litted pictures!
After getting the right lighting for your picture, you can further improve it (varies by individual opinions) by giving it a frame or adding your very own watermark, or both. The easiest way you can do both, for me, is using Picnik. It's a photo-editing website which is free and user-friendly too. All you need to do is to create your own account, and you're set to go! It allows you to add all sorts of different borders (which is not featured in Picasa) as well as add special effects, items, words etc. Flick'r uses Picnik as their photo-editing programme. You can actually opt for the premium account, which requires a little payment for extra features, but I really think the basic FOC account is good enough :) Click here to go to their website. So after adding a border and a watermark:
See how much difference it makes by just a few tweaks here and there? =) There you have it, simple and free ways I use to edit my picture. Doesn't take a genius to do it. Once you've mastered it and grew bored of the same stuffs, you can move on to Photoshop or Aperture, and when you do, teach me too. I have yet to learn or even own the software!
